Floating Timer

The always-on-top timer window — styles, the tasks island, click-through mode.

The floating timer is FocusMo's always-visible session display: a small, chromeless window that stays on top while you work. Most of its options live in Settings → Appearance.

The floating timer during a session

Countdown styles

Pick a style from the timer's style menu — your session keeps running while you switch:

  • Normal — the full timer with task name and controls.
  • Minimal — the stripped-down Zen style showing only the countdown.
  • Menu Bar — the timer lives in the menu bar instead of a window.
  • A digital variant is also available.

Things you can do with it

  • Start / pause sessions directly from the timer.
  • Add 5 minutes — hover to reveal (countdown Timer mode only).
  • Toggle Do Not Disturb — a DND switch appears on hover when the DND integration is set up.
  • Daily goal progress — expand to see your progress toward the daily focus goal.
  • Move and resize anywhere, on any screen — position and size are remembered.
  • Rename the task from the timer's ellipsis menu (Zen Mode).

Big Tasks Island

The Big Tasks Island (also called the multi-task floating island) shows your active tasks as chips on the floating timer, so you can see and switch between several commitments at once.

  • Toggle it in Settings → Appearance.
  • Add or remove tasks via the task-selection sheet, or press ⌘⌃I to add the current task.

Floating Island (Focus Companion)

While the floating timer shows your running session, the Floating Island is its between-sessions sibling: a small strip near the top of the screen that appears when no timer is running and hides automatically when one starts.

It shows a motivational message of your choice (click to edit), or — with Productivity Check-Ins enabled — your most recent goal. Hover it for quick actions:

  • Start Timer — opens quick-add, pre-filled with your current goal
  • Add Log — record a check-in (when check-ins are enabled)
  • A ⋯ menu — jump to Daily Goal, Activity, Tasks, or Settings
  • Edit the message, or × to hide it

Toggle it in Settings → Features → Floating Island (onboarding calls it Focus Companion — same thing). It's enabled on fresh installs. A sub-setting, Always use center position, re-centers it each time it appears; drag it anywhere if you turn that off.

Click-Through Mode

Click-Through Mode makes the timer transparent and non-interactive — your clicks pass straight through it to whatever's underneath. Useful for gaming, presentations, or screen recordings where you want to see the time but never accidentally click the timer.

Custom background

You can give the timer any background color, or leave it following the system theme — Settings → Appearance.
